The Cotswold Farmhouse
The Cotswolds is the largest designated ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ in England. Situated along a range of rolling hills, the area has a distinctive rural charm. It’s in this quiet corner of England that Hush Kitchens (working alongside a team of architects and interior designers) were appointed to create a country kitchen in a 17th century farmhouse.
Belle collaborated with Shere Kitchens to help deliver her vision for the kitchen and utility room redesign. The brief was to combine the warmth and homeliness of a traditional English kitchen with the breezy freedom of a Californian coastal retreat, bringing natural beauty into focus with handmade oak cabinetry.
The clients were nervous about using such a bold colour for the cabinetry, but are now delighted about how bright and uplifting the finished kitchen feels.
Recognising that a Butler sink was an essential design feature in a farmhouse kitchen, the team opted for the classic and extremely practical Shaws Double Bowl sink, a Butler sink with a dividing wall in the centre. Beautifully adorned with the Ionian Mixer Tap in a traditional aged brass finish by Perrin & Rowe, the brassware perfectly complements the hardware on the cabinetry and plays an essential role in creating the farmhouse feel.Modern and practical features like the Parthian Mini Hot Tap, also by Perrin & Rowe, hide advanced features in a traditional body. Once you have steaming hot water available for teas, coffees and cooking, you’ll never want to use a kettle again!
On the central island is a Shaws Inset 800 sink with a satin brass Ionian bridge mixer and rinse from Perrin & Rowe.
The space also features two oven Aga range cookers, in white vitreous enamel. The bold use of white is a feature throughout the space that keeps everything light and airy. The whitewashed walls, so reminiscent of a country kitchen, and the clean white granite work surfaces bounce light around the room, allowing the green and copper to dominate without being too dark and oppressive. This kitchen has been designed from the ground up, so the whole kitchen sits on a floor of traditional flagstones by Beswick Stone. It had to be stone, after all; this is the Cotswolds.
